For many years, the hydrostatic weighing method (Golden Standard) was the only way to determine body fat accurately. However, this method is very expensive, time consuming and uncomfortable. The FUTREX® Body Composition Analyzer has shown for more than 25 years, with several thousand units sold, to be much cheaper, easier and much faster and can still be performed with the same accuracy.

The FUTREX® Body Composition Analyzer is a diagnostic system for analyzing body composition. The unique and patented worldwide, near-infrared sensing technology allows the system to identify and to evaluate accurately the various body components such as fat percentage, fat mass, fat-free mass, BMI and BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate). Additionally the "FUTREX® Software" allows the patented Near-infrared technology local measurements of the body, for example, stomach, legs, buttocks. The local measurement thus gives one a before and after verification, if, for example: is reduced by special forms of training, the local fat liposuction or cavitation.

The FUTREX® Body Composition Analyzer has the latest near-infrared technology which was developed by the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture). This method uses specific NIR light wavelengths which are absorbed by fat. By measuring the absorbed light, the body fat percentage is calculated exactly.

Measuring principle:

All organic materials (such as fat or protein) absorb light in unique ways in certain parts of the spectrum. The direct measurement of body fat mass based on the different absorption and reflection values of the different tissue types. The fatty tissue absorbs the light waves emitted specific, while the fat-free mass reflects the light waves. Using a light rod is picked up and the light reflected by the optical data of the body fat percentage and standing in direct communication components accurately identified and evaluated.

The FUTREX® Diagnostic System measures the difference between the back reflecting near-infrared light emitted from the biceps in the near-infrared light. (The strength of the emitted near-infrared light beam with a 60 watt bulb compare, from which you are about 7 meters). In the graph (spectroscopy) is to see how the fatty tissue in the light of a specific wavelength range (red curve) is absorbed.

The biceps as a measuring point has been through numerous studies (see studies) of U.S. Government is determined and is in direct correlation to the overall body fat percentage. The FUTREX® light rod / transmitter emits a harmless near infrared light beam at a specific wavelength in the biceps. The light is absorbed and reflected by the fat of fat-free mass. The light absorption by the FUTREX® Body Composition Analyzer measured to determine body fat.

The measurement results correlate excellently with the underwater-weighing method (gold standard), for example according to the measurement: the LCD display of the model 6100/XL displayed and printed via the integrated thermal printer.
